Polish Plum Cake Recipe II (Placek ze Sliwkami)

We love Polish Plum Cake, in fact we even planted our own plum tree to easily make plum cake!  It is a buttery vanilla cake with a fresh plum topping -- just sweet enough for a light dessert or morning pastry with coffee.  In fact, I have two recipes for this plum cake dessert.  The first one was a more German variety and this latest plum cake recipe was found while we were visiting family in Poland, made by Tomek's mom.  The plum cake in this is a little lighter (less bread like) and she added a vanilla pudding on top--unbelievably good.

Plum Cake Recipe II (Placek ze Sliwkami)

Polish Plum Cake

  • 2.5 cups sifted flour
  • 3/4 cup butter, softened
  • 2 tablespoons vanilla
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest (optional)
  • Favorite vanilla pudding recipe
  • 1.5 pounds of fresh plums

1. Preheat over to 350 degrees F.  Grease and flour one 9 inch pan, or use parchment paper.

2.  In one bowl, cream the butter with sugar, eggs, lemon zest, salt, and vanilla.

4.  In a second bowl, stir together flour and baking powder.  Then beat the flour mixture into the creamed egg yolk mixture until well blended.  Cover and set aside in fridge to set.

5.  Prepare your favorite vanilla pudding.  Feel free to use the packaged version, but make sure it is the kind you cook.  You can substitute milk with cream and add one to two eggs to pudding to make it thicker.

6.  Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan.  Add prepared pudding on top, spread evenly, and top with plums. You can arrange the plums skin side down (cut in half), or if you happen to have a lot of plums and want to use more, you can cut them in fourths and place them in side-ways so more can fit in the dough (we like a lot of fruit so we add as many plums as possible).

6.  Bake at 375 degrees for 40 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center of cake comes out clean.  Remove from oven and serve.

I don't see any mention on where you incorporate the pudding into this recipe. Can you clarify please?

It has been added, sorry about that!

Receiving emails from your site

Thank you for your recipes I received on your links! I am so glad I signed up to get your emails! I will try some of them. I am of Polish descent and really miss my dear late mother's cooking! I am so glad it is easy to buy your pierogi! They are so good and many people like them. Keep them coming! I have to lose weight for my health and am using the intermittent fasting method. You probably know about this method. If you don't look it up on internet or I could explain if you are interested. I have had success with the Fast Diet. I am looking for tasty low calorie vegetable and salad recipes, easy to prepare as I am running out of ideas. A lot of Polish recipes contain sour cream and other yummy things but I have to tone these down so that they are "low calorie". I do not like mushrooms or borscht. If you can think of some recipes that might suit me, I would be very interested. Many Australian salads are very bland and boring to my taste. Thank you for reading this and thanks for finding for me some nice easy recipes! Best wishes always Victoria Armstrong nee Klimek

Healthy Polish Recipe Ideas

Hi Victoria,

I am glad you are enjoying our newsletter with all the Polish recipes!  For low calorie ideas, you can always substitute sour cream with Greek yogurt, and actually many of our soups listed and salads are very healthy and even vegan.  Check out the list of Polish recipes  and make sure you look at the soups and salads listed there.  You can always leave the mushrooms out (except the mushroom soup recipe since that is the main ingredient).
